Guess who's back? Back again. The Bitch is back, tell a friend!
{No, seriously. Go tell people. The more, the better. ;) }
Side note: Your introduction to W will have to wait a while, she's been kinda busy recently. {She is real though. Promise. We didn't just make her up.}
Okaaaay, so the title is pretty much self-explanatory... I'm gon' do a 90's tag! How very unoriginal of me!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here goes... The life of a brown child, born in the early 90's:
1. Favourite toys? The chappal I used to get smacked with and a velan to practice making rotis for the future.
JUST KIDDING! =D
{I'm only half-joking though. I did have my own mini-velan that I used to make tiny any-shape-other-than-a-circle rotis. I thought it was fun at the time. Now I know better.}
On a more truthful note, my Barbie dolls were my favourite toys! The brown side-effect was that my Mum used to make clothes for them at home, instead of buying new outfits for them. I can't count the number of times I've dressed them up in "saris" with random strips of fabric.
I also had a few other toys that spring to mind: SkyDancers! {I used to aim this at people and use it as a weapon because I found out, through experience, that those pretty, innocent-looking wings are quite hard. Ouch, my face!} Tamagotchis! {I had about 3 of these because I kept losing them. I still have the last one...around. Somewhere. =/} I did have a Polly Pocket set, My Little Pony, a Dear Diary but to be honest, I never loved them as much as my Barbies.
2. Favourite adverts? I don't think I had a favourite kids advert. Hardly even remember any of them, let alone having a favourite. On the other hand, there was this advert that I thought was brilliant! Started that trend of people answering their phones with, "WAAAASSSSSSUUUUPPPPP!" ;)
3. 'N Sync or Backstreet Boys? BACKSTREET BOYS FOR SURE! It's really hard to pick a favourite track of theirs but I think it's gotta be this one {I Want It That Way is a very close second though}:
Hey does anyone remember when this song was featured in a Sabrina the Teenage Witch episode, one of the college ones, I think? There were zombies at the cafe or something... Let me see if I can find it on YouTube!
...
...
So the only clip I could find wasn't in English but whatever. Skip to like 4mins for the bit where the song starts. =)
4. Weirdest fashion trend? I don't remember particular trends because my mother dressed me pretty much all the way through the 90's so I didn't pay much attention. I know there was a lot of denim.. Dungarees, jackets, jeans, etc.
Actually, the weirdest trends were the hairstyles and accessories!
Hair cones, scrunchies, wrapping, crimping! Oh dear.
I say again... Oh dear! SMH.
5. Favourite collectable? I had brown parents. I didn't get much any pocket money...BUT, there were a few things they funded for me.
POGS. The best collectables of the 90's. It was never-ending, pretty much impossible to get all of them because there were so many and loads of different companies made their own branded ones too.
{Through my image search for pogs, I found I could've owned Barbie ones! WHAT?! I feel cheated out of them.}
{Don't be mistaken into thinking I had those cool tubes to store my pogs in. Oh no, I kept mine in a rinsed out Pringles tube. *sigh* The brown life.}
The other thing I remember were Pokémon cards but I ended up giving most of them to my younger cousin because it became a bigger deal in his generation.
6. Favourite Beanie Baby? I never really collected these so my favourite one was the only one I ever had. Almond. I still have her somewhere because I'm sentimental as fuck and can't get rid of it.
7. Favourite game system and game? I didn't have a favourite game system, BUT...Rayman was the game that took me right through my childhood, absolutely loved it!
{I do occasionally play it now because I still have my 1st generation Playstation that I bought it with... See? I don't like to throw shit away because it holds memories for me man. Shut the fuck up, don't judge me.}
Another brown side effect of this answer: Rayman was my favourite because I only had like 3 games for my PS1 and the other two were shit. I was never allowed to spend more money on other games to play on it because, "Vhy ju need more? Ju got 3 already that we buy at same time as PS1 on special offer, so vhy ju vant to buy more, full price huh? Vhy?"
8. Favourite music artist? SPICE GIRLS. Scary Spice was my favourite. SNM.
Actually, I did also love S Club 7. Esssss Cluuuuuub, there ain't no party like an S Club party!
LOL. SMH. Just brilliant. =D
9. Favourite candy? We just call them sweets here in the UK so does that include chocolate? To make it easier for myself, I'm going to pretend it doesn't..
Cherry drops! Skittles! Nerds! Sherbet sticks! Fruit Salad chewies! There are more but I'm growing tired of not being able to pick A favourite and having to make lists all over the place. I'm sorrrryyyyy, I just can't choose. =/
10. Favourite game (board game, school games, etc.)? I used to love Monopoly and if I had people to play it with these days who didn't cheat so much, I'd still love it. It took all the fun out of playing when you realise there's no point making any effort. Stupid fun-suckers. {Anyone else think that sounds slightly wrong? LOL oh well, you were warned when the blog started.}
11. Favourite book? The first set of books that come to mind when asked about childhood faves are the Harry Potter books. I love them. That is all there is to say.
{On this note, I've been to the Warner Bros. Harry Potter studio tour twice now and definitely recommend it to HP book/film lovers alike!}
When I was in primary school, I really liked Goodnight Mister Tom and though I've never read it again since then, it's still the second one that comes to mind.
Other books I spent a lot of time with as a kid were the Enid Blyton Famous Five books, Nancy Drew stories and Babysitters Club... I set out to read all the books in each of these series but grew out of them before I could. =(
12. What would you watch when you got home from school? Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Kenan and Kel, Fresh Prince, Saved By The Bell, Art Attack, Scooby Doo, Tom and Jerry, The Flintstones... Basically, I can't remember specifically what time I used to watch all of these but they were all favourites that I watched regularly. =)
So that is my 90's tag all done and dusted.. I left out a few questions just because I didn't have relevant answers or I'd somehow already managed to answer it in another question.
Do you remember any of the stuff I mentioned? Or maybe you don't...why not do your own 90's tag and leave the link in the comments below. I promise to watch/read it if you follow follow follow! ;)
Did I forget to mention, we do indeed have a Twitter account now! Following back readers of the blog so be sure to let us know you do. =)
